About Boxes by Neal

All boxes from Boxes By Neal have been Hand Crafted by glass artist Neal Hearn at his studio in Western North Carolina.  Glass used in the tops of the boxes was handmade for the specific box in the studio.  The same is true for the copper handles. Each box is a unique one of a kind piece. Each box contains a gemstone, usually agate, that suggest the boxes colors and design.   All boxes are signed by the artist and dated.  I will also create a custom made box that fits your needs or desire.  To read more about Neal and his boxes please click here     Reviews are at the bottom of any Individual  box page.  Please leave your review. Originaly from Birmingham, Alabama.  I relocated to Franklin, North Carolina in 1995.  Formal education includes Electrical Engineering, Business, and Computer Science.  Other studies include art, glass fusing, metal smithing, and enameling, and radio broadcast.  I began creating the boxes in 1984 and have made thousands that are spread all over the world.  Boxes are sold on the web, at art/craft shows, and wholesale to galleries.  My current body of work includes the use of many techniques and materials.

In my 30 plus years of designing and creating unique boxes I have enjoyed every minute of it.  In that time I have had the pleasure of hearing from many customers that have owned one of my boxes for years to tell me how much they enjoy their box.

Boxes by Neal is a one man operation.  I personally design and create every part of my boxes. In creating these unique glass and wood boxes I use many material that include handmade  fused glass, copper, gemstones, wood, and others.  I use some traditional  construction techniques with a few of my own twist, fusing, metal fabrication and forging, wood, carving (limited), and electroplating.  I also cut and polish gemstone material.  All of my boxes are designed, and handmade, by me, here in Franklin, North Carolina. The glass components on each box is  custom made for that box using glass fusing techniques. My copper parts are forged using traditional blacksmithing techniques. Each box is electroplated with real copper to provide long lasting beauty, and coated with a protective sealant.  Every box is a one-of-a-kind, signed piece.
